Mechanical properties
Titanium Grade 1 Square Bar has mild, stable mechanical properties with excellent plasticity and toughness. Its real strength is how easily it can be formed – it works well with both cold and hot processing, and it doesn't tend to break in a brittle way.
Corrosion resistance
This is the main selling point of GR1. It resists corrosion in many different media because a dense, stable titanium dioxide passivation film forms quickly on its surface. And if that film gets damaged, it repairs itself just as quickly.
Physical properties
- Density is 4.51 g/cm³ – only 60% that of steel – so it's a lightweight metal that helps reduce the self‑weight of equipment.
- Thermal conductivity is about 15.24 W/(m·K), which is relatively low, making it good for parts that need heat insulation.
- Coefficient of linear expansion is 8.6×10⁻⁶/℃ (20‑100℃), giving it good dimensional stability with minimal deformation when temperatures change.
- It's non‑magnetic, so it can be used in applications where magnetism would interfere with sensitive devices.
Biocompatibility
GR1 pure titanium is non‑toxic and non‑allergenic to human tissue. It doesn't cause immune rejection and forms good osseointegration with bone, which makes it one of the go‑to materials for medical implants.
Processing performance
- Forming: You can forge, roll, draw, or stamp it. In cold working, just watch the amount of deformation to avoid work hardening.
- Welding: Works with TIG, plasma arc, and other methods. Stress relief after welding is recommended.
- Machining: Because it doesn't conduct heat well, tools can wear out quickly. Best to use carbide tools with plenty of coolant and lubricant.
